On the obverse: O QUA SOL HABITABILES ILLUSTRAT ORAS MAXIME PRINCIPUM (You are the master of all great princes, wherever the sun shines - (Horatius: Odes, 4th Book, 14th Ode)), bust of Joseph I in Hungarian dress, surrounded by a wreath of olive branches and laurel. On the ribbon: IOSE - PHUS I D - G HUNGA -RIAE REX - ARCHI - DUX AUS -TRIAE (Joseph I, by the grace of God, King of Hungary, Archduke of Austria).
On the reverse: POTENS IN TERRA ERIT SEMEN EIUS GENERATIO RECTORUM BENEDICETUR (His seed will be a hero on earth, the generation of the faithful will be blessed - (Book of Psalms 112:2)). Bust of Leopold I in a circle of pearls, around him it is written: IUSTITIA EIUS MANET (His justice lives on).
Marginal inscription: PRAESENTI TIBI MATUROS LARGIMUR HONORES: NIE ORITURUM ALIAS , NIL ORTUM TALE FATENTES 1688 (While you still live among us, you already receive the respect you deserve, and we confess that there has never lived, there will never be anyone like you, 1688)
